Fuck It Up series Part Two: Fuck with the Body

How do we have&hold the feminist body?

Gap Riot Press is back with another tiny, unruly season of the Fuck It Up series. This time, we're issuing a call for work that fucks with the body. We're looking specifically for feminist, experimental, visual work that unsettles embodiment, refuses bodily norms, and writes the body as political, porous, haunted, desiring, grieving, joyful, monstrous, ordinary, and impossible. We want chapbooks that challenge what bodies are supposed to do and look like, what bodies can and do remember, carry, conceal, contain, and how text can and cannot reflect them! We are especially looking for work that (re)imagines feminist bodies beyond discipline, productivity, respectability, and the whole frickin’ mess of limits imposed by patriarchy, capitalism, colonialism, and ableism.

We called for:

  • Experiments in&with language/image/material(ity)

  • Feminist embodiment, illness, disability, and chronic pain

  • Rage, pleasure, desire, intimacy, care, sex

  • Grief, inheritance, memory, and bodily archives

  • Domesticity, reproductive labour, kinship, and the everyday

  • Bodies in transformation, transition, decay, and that good good deleuzoguattarian becoming

    • (sorry you can take the grrrls out of the academy but you can’t take the academy out of the grrrls)

  • Monsters, myths, flesh, ghosts, and the beautifully grotesque

As always, we're looking for pretty short chapbooks (absolute max 20 pages, plz&ty) that fuck around with form. We want visual, experimental, and formally innovative writing that treats the body as both subject matter AND a site of invention. Surprise us!!!

And just like last time, loves, we’re publishing smaller runs and smaller seasons than ever, so please keep that in mind when submitting. We’re interested in collaborating with you to make uniquely material and artistically-innovative works. We’re explicitly looking for things that think beyond the chapbook form and reimagine the future of small press publishing.
